Overview

This training prepares caregivers to provide respectful, safe, and effective light housekeeping in older adults’ homes. It emphasizes safety, infection control, dignity, client preference, observational vigilance, and documentation. Tasks covered: general tidying, kitchen and meal‑related cleaning, bathroom cleaning, laundry, bedmaking, safe handling of waste, and identifying hazards that require escalation. Learning objectives Perform light housekeeping tasks safely and efficiently while preserving client dignity and independence. Apply infection control and safe chemical use during household cleaning. Identify home hazards and report clinical or safety concerns (falls, skin issues, weight loss, cognitive decline). Maintain professional boundaries and avoid tasks that are outside the Service Plan or Home Services scope. Document completed tasks, observations, and any referrals or escalations accurately. Core principles Client‑directed care: follow the Service Plan and honor client preferences for timing, methods, and involvement. Safety first: prioritize fall prevention, safe lifting, and proper ergonomics. Infection control: practice hand hygiene, use PPE as required, and follow cleaning product instructions. Preserve dignity: involve the client when possible, ask for permission before handling personal items, and respect privacy. Observe and report: housekeeping visits are opportunities to notice health or safety changes and report them per Observation & Reporting policy. Pre‑visit checklist Review the client’s Service Plan and any household notes. Bring: agency ID, hand sanitizer, disposable gloves, microfiber cloths, small cleaning spray (approved by supervisor), trash bags, laundry bag, and a lightweight step stool if permitted.
